REACT at a Glance
Our Mission
We seek to address the healthcare disparities that arise from the geographic, linguistic, and cultural isolation experienced by the refugee and asylee communities in the greater Phoenix area. We achieve this through our 4 pillars: (1): Engaging with the communities directly, (2) Understanding health needs, (3) Educating on health knowledge gaps, and (4) Providing high-quality patient care.
ENGAGE
Connecting with the Community
REACT meets the refugee populations in their own local communities to assess health needs and build meaningful, lasting relationships. Through its partnership with Lutheran Social Services, REACT works directly with refugee families in their homes, providing individualized support and resources to help ease their transition to life in the United States.
EDUCATE
Providing the Tools for Success
After assessing the community's health needs, REACT provides educational workshops on health topics of interest. Past workshop topics include: nutrition, diabetes, medication management, hygiene, and vaccinations.
EMPOWER
Longitudinal Success Among the Refugee Populations
Volunteer physicians working in conjunction with the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine medical students to provide supplementary primary healthcare needs. In turn, the refugees become more accustomed to working with healthcare professionals.
CLINICAL CARE
Providing High-Quality Care
Medical providers and students from Arizona State University and Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine volunteer through Alex Kim Foundation to provide free medical care at health screenings.
